9:44am Warrnambool continued
A quick rundown of our travels for those of you with a map or experience in this part of the world
Thurs: Caught the XPT train from Cootamundra to Melbourne. I sat next to a delightful 75yr old Nun who was great company and amused by the antics of the twins!! We stayed in the Kingsgate Hotel near Spencer ST station, on the recommendation of Robb Kitcher. IT was fine and had a nice snack bar on the first floor with a balcony where we could take our first good look at Melbourne at night.
Fri: Caught the free tram around the CBD and got off at Melbourne Central. Wandered for a while then caught the same tram service for the rest of the circuit around the City back to Spencer ST. Took trains all the way to Dandenong then Berwick where we were picked up and took possession of our Winnebago (see bartrack.com.au for a description and pix of the vehicle, a 6 berth). Drove clear across the city to Coburg through Fri p.m. rush hour traffic and into the setting sun. Stayed at a nice van park.
Sat: Up at 6am in the dark (for those that know me you will be amazed at this!!. By 7am we were parked right next to Vic markets on a Sat morning. PLanned to stay 3 hours, ended up 9 hours!! I got that all weather coat that i always wanted (there is a good story there but will wait till I have more time and a more comfortable keyboard!!) Somehow we got to Geelong by dark after almost getting blown off the Westgate Bridge..silly move that one!!)
Sun: Travelled via the Bellerine Peninsula, the Maze park (where we got lost!! - after me claiming that I could NEVER get lost in a maze !!), lunch at Pearl Bay from Seachange (really named Brunswick Heads), lost Brittany's sandal (my fault!!) Then via the Great Ocean Rd to Lorne and camping in more rain.
Mon: The really good bits of the Great Ocean Rd, Apollo Bay, the 12 Apostles and made Port Cambell by dusk, in the driving rain, wind and big seas. Blown around all night, I walked up the street past the beach and harbour, that is an experience!!
Tues: Back to LOch Ard Gorge (8 kms) , amazing, and the helicopter joy rides were going during all this weather!!. Then to LOndon Bridge, which fell in 1990 trapping 2 people on it for hours!! Rather them than me, although bragging right would be nice!! The Bay of Islands very good and into Waarnambool and KMart, where we were stranded for hours until a search party and the new Van Morrison CD saw us escape into the cold and dark of the night!!
So here we are, we are resting a few days and looking forward to checking this place out!
Will talk again soon,
9/10 CS the wordwrap works perfectly here at MacDonalds where they have 4 machines set up but you have to stand and can only work on one page at a time, count yourselves lucky. It costs $1 for 10 mins and works quite well. Study hard and there may be a test first day back next term!! ( but we will see)
Bye for now,
Warwick and the Longs!!

Wed 22 May 2002 Warrnambool VIC
At last we are back on line. Sorry about the wait. It has been wet and raining and windy for almost all our trip but that has not lessened the impact of the Great Ocean Road. If anything it has heightened the experience as the 12 Apostles look amazing in big seas and driving rain and mist.
There is a lot to tell but I want to get this posted so that my 9/10 Computing Studies class have something to read!! They are in class this morning, either period 1 or 2, so I will post this right away and do some more shortly.
Kelsie and I walked 20 mins to the MacDonalds here to do this so the Bacon and Egg McMuffin was worth the effort. Sorry about that.
Will post this now. It is 9:42am and my 10 mins is nearly up. (most of it download time..very slow in Victoria of course..sorry, Mr Foo!!)
Bye for now,
Warwick
