Kununurra Thurs 30 June 2005
Well, what a day!! We have just returned from a full day tour of the Ord River Scheme. We took a bus trip and 2 cruises on the day, being picked up at 8am and dropped off just now at 5.30pm. The bus took us the 70 odd kms out to the Argyle dam for a 2 hour cruise on the dam. Quite interesting and unbelievable weather. Then a tour of the Mary Durack "Kings in Grass Castles" family home with lunch after that. Then the 55 kms cruise back along the Ord River all the way to Kununurra with sunset thrown in. Just fantastic scenery with crocs and birds and plant life!! For the first time this trip I used my backup battery and filled over 2 gbs of memory, so much to see. The little fish that squirt water amused the twins as they were holding bread at the time over the edge of the boat! Fascinating! Much more to tell but they are closing up so must go.
Yesterday we went to Wyndham, the one up here!! It has what must be one of the world's best lookouts, the 5 rivers lookout, just amazing and breathtaking! The big saltwater crocs were interesting too!!
Must away, enjoy those hols all you school people!!
Regards, Warwick and the girls. (And Frank Sheedy and Anne were with us all day!! amazing!!)

Kununurra Tues 28 June 2005
Finally got here in glorious sunshine across the wonderful Kimberley from Halls Creek today. A big day but our best drive we've had!
The Geikie Gorge cruise yesterday was excellent, caught the 9.30am boat with about 40 people on board, just beautiful, lots of small crocs and bird-life as well as wonderful rockfaces etc. Then travelled the long drive to Halls Creek getting there just in time to see the China Wall in the twilight, amazing rock formation.
Today the drive from Halls Creek is just chock full of wonderful mountain ranges, with a better one just around the next bend, and wonderful weather to enjoy it in.
Our van park here, the Ivanoe, is luxurious, esp after the last few days! Will enjoy the next couple of days here, in Wyndham and at Lake Argyle/Ord River.
Must go, out of dough!
Take care, into N.T. soon. All well, hope so with you, too.
Regards, Warwick, Libby and the girls.

Fitzroy Crossing Sunday 26 June 2005
Since our last blog we completed the Pearl Lugger cruise. This gave us a good idea of the history of the pearling industry but also a good guided tour of Broome as well as a nice cruise off Cable Beach. Enjoyed by all. The seas were calm on the early morning cruise and the temperature was lovely.
The Stairway to the Moon was brilliant, even the locals said it was the best for some years. We had a lovely spot on Town Beach with the markets behind us. We enjoyed the markets with all the entertainment and food and local craft stalls. A very good experience for all.
The next day was the cruise then we spent the rest of the day looking around Broome, a very interesting place. The kids had a swim in the high tide back at Town Beach while Lib tried to read and keep her eyes open on the beach in the warmth under the trees! I went for a brief walk a little way back into town, stopping at the museum briefly.
After finding a new van park we washed clothes and had dinner then went back to the markets for the next night of the Stairway to the Moon but it was overcast so not great for the spectators, didn't worry us as we had seen it! Had a nice hour wandering around.
On our final morning we found the big markets being held in the grounds of the Courthouse/Cable House museum with a number of the stalls and entertainment from the other markets plus much more, very interesting, held us back for hours!
Off to Derby then, arriving in time to witness the high tide at the jetty, and this is a spectacular place, too. On the way in we stopped at the Boab Prison Tree which both of us had always wanted to see, it is amazing! There was also the Myall Bore, long trough and Shorty's Pool, constructed in WWII by the soldiers for their comfort in the heat.
Today we returned to the Jetty in time for the low tide and this is a sight, no water at all, just kids wandering around the mudflats. The water is perpetually brown as it is always moving in and out and remains in suspension from the Fitzroy River.
Now in Fitzroy Crossing, nice big van park come tourist complex, Geike Gorge tomorrow morning with a cruise possible then on to Halls Creek.
Better go, kids are back in the van waiting for food! (like birds in a nest!)
Hi to all, weather beautiful, lots to see!
Regards,
Warwick and Libby.
